Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

On January 29, 2006, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund opened a world class, state of the art physical rehabilitation facility at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Bo was one of over 600,000 who donated the $50 million to construct the 60,000 square foot structure. The facility will serve not only military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also those military personnel and veterans severely injured in other operations in the performance of their duties, both combat and non-combat related. Along with Don Imus of the “Imus in the Morning Show,” they were proud to be a part of raising funds for our troops.

Not content to just donate funds, Bo flew down to attend the opening ceremony, where he was joined by over 3,000 supporters including Senators John McCain (AZ) and Hillary Clinton (NY), Veterans Affairs Secretary James R. Nicholson, Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace, USMC. Music for the event was provided by the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps with lyrics sung by none other than John Mellencamp. The true VIP’s of the event, however, were the troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, who kicked off the ceremony with a parade down the red carpet. The facility will serve 300-400 troops a year as they tackle rehabilitation and return to something of a normal life.

Although the goal of the construction costs has been reached, the Fund is accepting donations to provide additional services for our wounded military and their families, including facilities for patients' children, additional medical equipment and supplies, and medical research to improve the care of patients. One hundred percent of contributions go to these services, with nothing taken out for the Fund's administrative costs. For more information, visit www.fallenheroesfund.org
