A recent conversation between Bo and security consultant, Edward M. Straw, a retired Vice Admiral for the USN who now serves as Chairman of the Board of Odyssey Logistics and Technology, led to a meeting between Bo and Senator Joe Lieberman (CT).
Admiral Straw asked for Bo’s help in convincing the Department of Defense and the US Army that they can save hundreds of millions a year and improve war fighter readiness with Odyssey taking over container management in Kuwait and Iraq. As it currently stands, logistics command leaders within the Department of Defense rotate to new assignments and contracts are continually awarded to new and incumbent service providers. These non-combatant logistics services include inbound shipment clearance, finding lost material, container re-stuffing, container and equipment transportation, transportation management and coordination, shipment planning, container identification and tracking.
After careful consideration, Bo decided that Odyssey’s proposals held merit and agreed to reach out to Senator Joe Lieberman, as Odyssey is headquartered in the senator’s home state of Connecticut. On January 30th, 2006, Bo flew to Washington D.C., met up with Senator Lieberman and discussed Odyssey’s proposals over dinner.
Odyssey’s proposals would replace US Army personnel assigned to noncombative support roles with Odyssey personnel, thus allowing redeployment of these troops to more critical areas, as well as expediting the return of any ready-for-issue (RFI) material to theater distribution centers and non-readyfor- issue (NRFI) material to repair depots. This also reduces costs, as the reuse of material eliminates the need of a re-order from CONUS. Check back to this website for any developments concerning this ongoing story…
