Safe Shopping Tips for the Holidays

Safe-Shopping-Tips-for-the-HolidaysIf you are gearing up for a busy shopping season, keep these safe shopping tips in mind. Always be aware of your surroundings. It gets darker earlier so you want to make sure you park in an area that has plenty of lighting to keep your car visible after your busy shopping day.

If you are shopping with your children tell them to see a store clerk or a security guard in the event you should separate. Make sure everyone in your shopping party avoids carrying lots of cash. Be sure that when you leave your car there are no bags or boxes visible on the car seats or floor. Put any recent purchases safely in the trunk.

If you are a woman, make sure to bring a purse that closes securely with you. Zippers and snaps are ideal. Place the strap across your shoulder and waist. Have the front flap face your body so as to deter any pickpockets. Men should be careful to carry wallets in a zippered or front pocket.

Pickpockets often work in teams and pull off theft in a matter of seconds. If someone distracts you with a question, be absolutely sure you have your hands on your wallet or purse. Never leave it in a shopping cart or on a counter unattended. Men might want to put a rubber band around their wallets. This is not a fashion statement, but rather it works to alert him when and if the wallet is being removed from his pocket while he is looking away.

When you leave the store bring your bags out to the car in batches. The more you are seen loading a car with tons of packages the more of a target you make yourself. You also need more time to put the bags away. Do your best to put your bags in the car after going to one or two stores. Remember to put them in the trunk and lock the car.

Avoid car thefts by making sure you use any and all anti-theft devices on your vehicle. Also be sure to take any cell phones, chargers and other items of value out of sight when you park your car. Finally, do not assume you can leave your car running for a minute to run back inside to get something. Follow these tips and you will stay safe and enjoy your holiday shopping.
