According to Bo Dietl, the recent murder of Indiana University student Hannah Wilson, 22, has led police to a suspect. Law enforcement is investigating ties between this case and the disappearance of Lauren Spierer four years ago, but similarities between the two are solely coincidental at this point.

Police discovered Wilson’s body near the university. She had suffered blunt force trauma to the head, which caused her skull to fracture. Police found a cellphone near her body that belonged to a 49-year-old male, who now faces murder charges. At this point, it remains unclear how, where, or when Wilson encountered the suspect.

While there are several factors to suggest that this homicide has a link to Lauren Spierer’s disappearance, we have concluded at this point that there is no relation between these two cases. It is true that both victims were students at Indiana University and had spent a night out at Kilroy’s Sports Bar in downtown Bloomington. However, this is not enough to deem the two cases related in any way. Thus, the link between the two remains as mere speculation unless further evidence is uncovered.

Spierer disappeared on June 3, 2011 and is still missing, but the recent case and allegations of similarities have thrust her story back into the spotlight. Currently, officers from the Indiana State Police Department are investigating Wilson’s murder and sharing information with the Bloomington Police Department, which is responsible for the investigation into Spierer’s disappearance.
